Doing What Matters: Relationships That Count (NOW POSTPONED)

Outline

Welcome to our 2020 Doing What Matters Conference for Designated Teachers for Children in Care. This day will bring together the expertise of our staff in schools with two inspirational, world renowned speakers and trainers who all have direct experience of the care system. The aim of our conference is for Designated Teachers to gain further knowledge and practical strategies to support their role in schools.

Description

This Conference offers attendees the chance to hear and learn from two inspirational Key Note Speakers: Stuart Guest and Richard McCann. There will also be a series of workshops led by Teachers, Head Teachers, Educational Psychologists, Care Leavers and Trainers that will provide delegates with practical ideas and guidance to support young people both in care and previously in care in schools and settings

Keynote Speakers:

Stuart Guest has over 11 years’ experience as a head teacher and is a father of birth and adopted children. He has developed trauma friendly approaches at his school and appeared on the BBC One Show in January 2018. Stuart is a blogger, speaker and trainer for trauma informed approaches in schools.

Richard McCann is living proof of the difference that can be made by offering the right words of encouragement and support. Born into poverty, on a council estate, in one of the roughest areas in Leeds, Richard’s life became even more chaotic following the death of his mother. In his keynote speech, Richard shares his warts-and-all story of setbacks, hardship and resilience with humility and touches of humour.
