ELSA: Emotional Literacy Support Assistant

Outline

The ELSA course involves 5 full days of training covering the following topics:
  • Emotional literacy/coaching, active listening and circle techniques
  • Self esteem, relationships and friendships
  • Regulating strong emotions (anger and anxiety) and using therapeutic stories
  • Social communication difficulties and practical strategies
  • Loss and bereavement and bespoke ELSA programme planning

Description

ELSAs are teaching assistants who have received additional training from the Educational Psychology Service. Following the training course, ELSAs receive ongoing group supervision from an Educational Psychologist.

Outcomes

The ELSA project will enable schools to support the positive mental health of their pupils by training ELSAs to deliver bespoke programmes of emotional literacy support.

The ELSA project is nationally recognised and there is an ever-increasing body of research to support ELSA work in schools. For more information, visit www.elsanetwork.org.

Booking Information

ELSA training is available from Nottinghamshire Educational Psychology Service. The total cost of £800 per person includes the following:
  • 5 full days of training provided by the Educational Psychology Service
  • 2 years of half-termly group supervision from an Educational Psychologist
